A Chicago-area man has been sentenced to 10 months in prison for a conspiracy to smuggle and distribute counterfeit Viagra, a seizure of hundreds of bottles and nearly $300,000 in cash.
T. J. Young, 48, of Chicago, was found guilty of conspiracy to traffic in counterfeit prescription drugs, a conspiracy to possess drugs with the intent to traffic in drugs and a misdemeanor. Young was sentenced to three years in prison.
Young, who faces up to five years in prison, had a record of serious health conditions, including a history of heart disease and diabetes, and was prescribed multiple prescriptions for Viagra. The seizures, which included counterfeit prescription drugs, were made by someone named John B. Smith, 41, of Chicago.

Young, who was sentenced by U. S. District Judge Richard A. Merrell in March and is scheduled for a federal prison term later this year, was found guilty in April, in a $250,000 cash-and-furosemide conspiracy case.
Young’s criminal history is similar to that of a number of other counterfeit drugs, including the Viagra seized by the Food and Drug Administration.
According to the FDA, Viagra, the active ingredient in the Food and Drug Administration’s prescription drug, is associated with erectile dysfunction, which can cause problems in men with heart disease and diabetes.
